Welcome to Saarland
Saarland is a state of Germany, located in the Federal Republic’s southwest, bordering on France and Luxembourg. The close proximity to neighbouring France has a considerable influence on many aspects of life in Saarland: people here derive great pleasure from all things eating, drinking and cooking, they are friendly, sociable and convivial.
Saarland has so much to offer – there are countless sights, monuments, registered landmarks, Celtic and Roman excavations, and the colossal World Cultural Heritage Site Völklingen Ironworks. The mining industry, coal and steel have a long tradition in the region, but today, most blast furnaces are shut down. Another factor that makes Saarland so attractive to tourists are its numerous hiking trails and bicycle routes, perfect for exploring the beautiful surroundings with its lush green landscapes, enchanting woodlands and picturesque lakes.
